“Is Crucifer a Christian band?”

The number one question Crucifer has received since their inception, "Are you guys a Christian band?" Well, read on for the full story. Originally we wanted to call the band Cruciform, but it was taken by a local band. Not wanting to start any issues, we looked in the dictionary for a word close to Cruciform. We found Crucifer and decided that it was close enough. A crucifer is actually one who carries a cross in a funeral, church or wedding procession. So that was the first reason we started receiving the ultimate question. So though Crucifer did not intend or start out as a Christian band, our first show opportunity came in the form of being able to open up for Christian metal masters Believer at Street Cry in Fredericksburg Virginia. The only caveat, was that our lyrics must be approved and rewritten if necessary. So not willing to pass up such an amazing opportunity, we adjusted our lyrics and played our first show. That show changed our lives. There was such a huge turnout and the love and respect we received from everyone, made us think about converting to an all Christian metal band. The show had that big of an effect on us all. So from that show on, we started writing Christian based lyrics with a positive message. Throughout the years we would continue to write lyrics about good and evil, the environment as well as other subjects that raised quite the eyebrows of our Christian supporters. So, is Crucifer a Christian band? Yes and no. Most of our lyrics are either Christian/God based or deal with positive subjects. But we also have secular songs mixed in as well. That is why we get the question all the time and why we have a large Christian and secular fan base. Most of all, we just want people to enjoy the music and come to their own conclusion. It's such a huge and complicated subject and we certainly are not scientist or theologians. We are just three musicians in a metal band. As far as our personal beliefs, well, that's personal.
